BJP slams AAP for Shazia Ilmi utterances on Muslims

New Delhi, Apr 23 (IBNS): The BJP has slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) after its leader Shazia llmi was shown in a video where she purportedly asked Muslims to be less secular and become communal for their own interest.

In the video, Ilmi is seen telling the leaders, "Muslims need to be less secular and should become a bit communal for their own interest."

BJP senior leader Arun Jaitley in his latest blog slammed the AAP.

"One of their lady representatives has been now seen telling the supporters that her community, must cease to be secular and adopt a more communal approach. Such comments by a political party or its representatives cannot even be privately made," blogged Jaitley.

"These comments reflect their mind set. They demonstrate that the alleged 'idealism' of AAP was put on one. The mask has slipped, even if accidentally," said Jaitley.

Coming under fire, Shazia has also defended her remarks.

"Well someone was accusing muslims of being communal. I think muslims keep voting for cong which uses them as vote bank," Ilmi tweeted.

"Its like misquoting Arvind's (Kejriwal) quote on being an anarchist. The context was contextually removed and just' I'm an anarchist was played out'," she said.

However, her party has disapproved of her comments.

"Regarding Shazia Ilmi's clip - AAP does not believe in this kind of politics nor does it endorse it.....All our representatives should be careful in their choice of words so that there is no scope for misinterpretation," the AAP said in a Twitter post.

AAP leader Manish Sisodia ‏tweeted: "I've seen Shazia's clip. She should have not said it. AAP does not believe in communal politics. Our politics is to unite all Indians.

Ilma is AAP's candidate from Ghaziabad seat.
