BMW car seized at Heman Soren's residence belongs to Congress leader: ED

New Delhi: Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Heman Soren is not the owner of the BMW car confiscated from his Delhi premises and belongs to a Congress Rajya Sabha MP, who hit national headlines last year after recovery of heaps of cash from his property, media reported citing sources in the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

Dhiraj Prasad Sahu, Congress's Rajya Sabha MP from Jharkhand is the owner of the vehicle as it is registered in the name of a firm owned by him, NDTV reported.

Sahu’s premises were raided by Income Tax officials in December and Rs 351 crore in cash was recovered.

As visuals of tax officials counting the piles of cash had appeared on TV screens, the BJP attacked the Congress on the issue.

The Opposition party had distanced itself from the cash recovery incident, asserting that the party had no involvement.

Sahu also claimed that the recovered money belonged to his liquor business firm and was unrelated to the Congress.

The process of cash recovery spanned over 10 days, requiring the officials to deploy 40 currency-counting machines to complete the huge task.

Now, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned the Congress MP for questioning on Saturday regarding his car, which was discovered at Delhi Soren's residence.

Soren, who was arrested last week, is under investigation in connection with an alleged mafia racket involving the illegal transfer of land ownership in Jharkhand.

He resigned from his position as Jharkhand Chief Minister just before his arrest. Denying the allegations against him, he accused the BJP of exploiting investigative agencies to undermine democratically elected governments.

During a raid at Soren's Delhi home on January 29, ED officials uncovered the BMW car, a blue SUV bearing a Haryana license plate.
