Bodies of three members of a family found in a pond in Assam’s Nagaon district

Guwahati: Bodies of three persons of a family, including two minors, were recovered from a pond near their house in Assam’s Nagaon district on Sunday, police said on Monday.

The incident took place at Madya Tupakuchi under Raha police station in the central Assam district.

According to police, bodies of a mother identified as 32-year-old Niru Bordoloi and her two minor child were recovered from a pond nearby their house.

Niru and her two children went missing since Saturday night and some locals found them death in a pond on Sunday morning and immediately informed police.

Pandit Bordoloi who is a daily wage labourer and husband of the deceased woman said that, after taking dinner they went to go for sleeping last night.

“But at midnight, I found that my wife and two child were missing and I searched them in nearby areas. I thought that, they will come back and I went to my work in the morning. Later, I came to know the incident,” Pandit Bordoloi said.

Later, police recovered the bodies from the pond and sent the bodies to Nagaon civil hospital for post-mortem.

Arpan Saikia, Officer-in-Charge of Raha police station said that, during the preliminary investigation we suspect that it is a suicide case.

“We haven’t found any injury mark in the recovered bodies. We have sent the bodies to Nagaon civil hospital for post-mortem. But we will conduct an inquiry,” the police officer said.
