Bodo Accord added a new chapter in the book of peace : PM Modi
Guwahati/IBNS: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said the Bodo Peace Accord added a new chapter in the book of peace.
Addressing a public gathering in Assam’s Kokrajhar to celebrate the Bodo Peace Accord signed on January 27, Prime Minister Modi said that, the Bodo Peace Accord won peace and non-violence and he committed to develop the Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD), Assam and the North Eastern region.
“Today, after decades, the road to the development of people and this region has been empowered. I welcome everyone involved in the Bodoland movement to India’s mainstream. After five decades of struggle, the hopes and aspirations of every protester has been respected. This is an inspiration for the entire world to give up violence and live amicably and peacefully. The arrival of peace to Assam is a historic moment. The road for permanent peace has opened up. Today is the day to celebrate the culture, heritage and tradition of the region,” PM Modi said.
He further said, “We won’t allow the darkness of terrorism to return here. No citizen will die due to violence anymore.”
The Prime Minister also said that, in the 13th Finance Commission, all states of Northeast got less than Rs 90,000 crore.
“In 14th Finance Commission, after we came to power, the allocation increased to Rs 3 lakh crore,” Modi said.
On January 27, the centre and the Assam government signed the Bodo peace accord with four fractions of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) and United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) in New Delhi in presence of Union Home minister Amit Shah.
This is Modi’s first visit to Assam since mass protests erupted in the state against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
Modi had canceled his visit to Assam two times in past two months.
Modi also said the government is now trying to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord and the government will act on it swiftly after the committee submits its report.
Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, state minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Hagrama Mahilari, leaders of ABSU, NDFB were present in the mass meeting.
