A cab driver was pulled out from his car, thrashed, stabbed and then allegedly shot dead by three men in New Delhi on Monday as the crowd that gathered at the scene observed the entire incident in silence.

The victim, who was identified as Shakib, was heading home after dropping his passenger when he hit an e-rickshaw near Red Fort.

Three people, who were passing by, stopped the car and confronted Shakiub over the accident.

Police said the bystanders did not call any PCR van and it was only after the victim was taken to  Lok Nayak Hospital that they came to know about the incident.

Three suspects, whose identities are still not known, are currently absconding.

A teen beggar, who was present at the scene, was also shot during the scene.

He sustained injuries to his right foot.

DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena told The Indian Express: " Further investigation revealed that around midnight, a WagonR hit a battery rickshaw near Kodia Pul-Chatta rail crossing and an altercation broke out (between the car driver and the assailants). The driver was dragged out of the vehicle by three persons and assaulted even as people started gathering at the spot. Shakib managed to grab hold of one of the persons… The assailant then pulled out a firearm and shot Shakib… and the minor… who was present at the spot and is an eyewitness to the incident. Both victims were rushed to the hospital by passersby.”

Shakib’s father, Mohd Shahid Khan, told The Indian Express that his son got married a little more than a year ago and is survived by a six-month-old child and his wife, Zoya.

“We live in a joint family at Zakir Nagar… and a major chunk of the family’s income came from my son’s salary… I had to quit my job at a vehicle parts (shop) after I fell sick… My younger son’s tempo business is also not doing very well… Shakib has four other siblings, all sisters,” Shahid said.''
