CBI quizzes Abhishek Banerjee in teacher recruitment scam for hours, TMC MP says 'waste of time'
Kolkata/UNI: The CBI on Saturday grilled Trinamool Congress National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee for a marathon of more than nine and a half hours at its office at Nizam Place in regard to the alleged teachers' recruitment scam in the state government-aided schools.
After coming out, Abhishek claimed that most of the agents whose names were shown to him during interrogation in the recruitment corruption case have their homes in East Medinipur and Murshidabad.
Since Suvendu Adhikari was in charge of these two districts while in Trinamool, Abhishek directly targeted Suvendu without naming him.
Abhishek reached the CBI office at Nizam Palace at 11 am this morning and when he came out of the CBI office, it was around 8.45 pm.
After leaving the CBI office, Abhishek claimed that the extract of the interrogation is void.
"I'm wasting my time too, the time of those who interrogated me is also wasted, '' he added.
After that, Abhishek targeted Suvendu Adhikari and said, "During the interrogation, the names of the agents who were shown to me and asked whether I know them or not, 90 per cent of their addresses are in East Medinipur and Murshidabad. So who was in charge of these two districts on behalf of the party?"
Abhishek directly named Subhendu Adhikari and alleged the Leader of Opposition took money in front of the camera.
"Does the CBI not have that footage? If I am summoned based on Kuntal Ghosh's letter, three persons should be summoned based on Sudipta Sen's letter. Then CBI's impartiality will be proved, " he stated.
The Trinamool MP said, "I did not mention the name of Kuntal Ghosh in the Shaheed Minar meeting. I talked about Madan Mitra and Kunal Ghosh. The media questioned me about Kuntal Ghosh, so what is my responsibility?"
Abhishek also brought up the subject of Partha Chatterjee's arrest on this day.
He said, ''Partha Chattopadhyay's house was searched after getting the documents of Arpita Mukherjee. Then, if Dilip Ghosh's document is found in Prasanna Ray's house, why will Dilip Ghosh not be summoned? Dilip Ghosh called All India Vice President of BJP? If the BJP does it, the law is one, but because I do Trinamool, it is a different law?''
Abhishek also claimed on this day that the CBI summon was to create obstacles in his program after receiving a huge response from the common people.
He claimed that if the program starts again in Bankura from May 22, people's enthusiasm will increase after today's incident.
He again raised his voice against the BJP. The attack was against Suvendu Adhikari . Besides, he once again raised questions about the central agency's neutrality.
After the CBI interrogation, Abhishek raised the tone on one issue after another.
He said, "Waste of time of those who interrogated. Waste of my time too. I have been targeted since day one. I have answered all the questions."
The TMC MP said, "If there is evidence against me, arrest me. No one is stopping. ED, CBI, NIA, agencies are being bullied. We will not surrender. It is a well-planned conspiracy to block our journey in the name of investigation."
"I will not be Delhi's pet dog. All thieves are members of BJP. Has the BJP taken action against any corrupt person? Trinamool has taken action against Partha Chatterjee. Suvendu was seen taking money in Narda, suspended him? I am being questioned based on the letter. Why is Suvendu not being interrogated based on the letter of Sudipta Sen? " he averred.
