Kolkata, Dec 5 (IBNS): Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju inaugurated a 15 MW solar power plant at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport, at Kolkata on Tuesday.

This 15 MW solar plant on commissioning is one of the largest by capacity wise at any airport in India and along with the 2MW roof-top solar plant commissioned earlier in 2016, the total solar power generation at the airport now stands at 17 MW.

This newly inaugurated solar project is in sync with the ‘Clean India-Green India’ motto and energy saving campaign of the Government.

It is developed in an area of 67.5 acre within six plots, each generating a capacity of 2.5 MW and the power injection in grid is by 11 KV underground cable system.

The dignitaries present on the occasion included Member of Parliament Sougata Roy, Member (Operation) of Airports Authority of India  I N Murti and Regional Executive Director (Eastern Region)  of AAI K L Sharma.
