Congress, BJP mock Arvind Kejriwal's resignation from Delhi CM post as 'gimmick', 'PR Stunt'

New Delhi: The BJP and Congress ridiculed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s resignation announcement, dismissing it as a gimmick aimed at improving his public image.

BJP spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari dubbed Kejriwal's move a "PR stunt," claiming the AAP leader is aware that his reputation among Delhi residents has shifted from an ‘honest’ to a ‘corrupt’ leader.

BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa argued that Kejriwal's resignation wasn’t a voluntary sacrifice but was forced by a Supreme Court ruling that prevents him from returning to the Chief Minister’s Office or signing official documents.

Sirsa also said that Kejriwal might use the two-day window to persuade MLAs to choose his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, as the next chief minister.

Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit echoed the sentiment, calling the resignation announcement a "mere gimmick" and stating Kejriwal should have stepped down earlier.

He pointed out that it’s unprecedented for a leader, released on bail, to be barred by the Supreme Court from re-entering the Chief Minister’s Office or signing official papers, implying the court's concerns about Kejriwal tampering with evidence.

Dikshit said the court is treating him like a criminal.

Kejriwal was granted bail by the Supreme Court on September 13 in the liquor policy case.

While granting bail, the court-imposed conditions, including barring him from commenting on the liquor policy case and entering the Chief Minister's office or Delhi secretariat.
