Congress chief Kharge pays homage to Pandit Nehru on his birth anniversary, calls him 'champion of democracy'

New Delhi/UNI: Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday paid homage to former Prime Minister late Jawaharlal Nehru on his birth anniversary and called him "champion" of democracy.

Taking to Twitter, Kharge wrote, "Pandit Nehru — the maker of modern India. 21st India cannot be imagined without his tremendous contribution."

"A champion of Democracy, his progressive thoughts furthered India’s social,political and economic development, despite the challenges. My humble homage to a true patriot," the Congress chief said.

Later, Kharge along with his predecessor Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes to Nehru at Shanti Van here.
