Congress' dig at Centre over price rise

| @indiablooms | Apr 08, 2022, at 02:48 am

New Delhi/UNI: The Congress on Thursday accused the Modi government of not holding a discussion over price rise in Parliament after both Houses were adjourned sine die a day ahead of schedule.

"We wanted a discussion over the price rise of petrol, diesel, LPG, CNG and kerosene. But the government did not hold any discussion over these issues," Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters here.

Claiming that the government had never allowed a discussion in both Houses to hide its failures, Kharge said: "The government gave the agenda to run the House till Friday but Parliament was adjourned two days ahead of schedule."

"During the UPA regime, we kept the fuel prices low and gave relief to the public. We wanted to tell the public through discussion that prices of crude oil are reducing in the international market but here every day the prices of fuel are increasing.

"Since the Assembly elections in five states are over, the government is exploiting the people by increasing the prices of essential commodities every day."

Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said that at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, it was decided that a discussion will be held on price rise.

"But all of a sudden the House was adjourned sine die today. The government ran away from a discussion."
