Constable arrested for Badaun rape case

Bareilly, Jan 6 (IBNS): One of the two constables accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in Uttar Pradesh's Badaun last week was arrested on Monday night, media reports said.

One of the accused, identified as Avnish Yadav, was arrested by a joint team of Badaun and Bareilly Police around 11 pm at the Bareilly railway station.

Police said Yadav was trying to escape to Delhi. He will be produced before a court on Tuesday.

The family members of the victim alleged that Yadav and his colleague Veer Pal Singh Yadav saw the girl when she left her house to use the toilet last Wednesday.

The duo then allegedly dragged the minor to their quarters near the police station and sexually assaulted her. A medical examination later also confirmed sexual assault.

Sources said around midnight the girl came back and told the family members about the incident.

The constables were suspended last week after Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav sought serious disciplinary action against them.
