Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday urged 18 Chief Ministers to help all those workers from her state who are stuck at different parts of the country amid the nationwide-lockdown which has been called to stop the spreading of Novel Coronavirus.

Banerjee wrote a letter to 18 Chief Ministers urging them to provide the workers with basic shelter, food and medical support during the time of COVID-19 crisis.

The 18 Chief Ministers are Edappadi K. Palaniswamy of Tamil Nadu, Naveen Patnaik of Odisha, K Chandrashekar Rao of Telangana, BS Yediyurappa of Karnataka, Uddhav Thackeray of Maharashtra, Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala, Jai Ram Thakur of Himachal Pradesh, Captain Amarinder Singh of Punjab, Trivendra Singh Rawat of Uttarakhand, Arvind Kejriwal of Delhi, Hemant Soren of Jharkhand, Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, Nitish Kumar of Bihar, Pramod Sawant of Goa, Vijay Rupani of Gujarat, Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, YS Jaganmohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh and Yogi Adityanath of Uttar Pradesh.

In the letter, Banerjee wrote, "Due to complete lockdown in the country for COVID-19 pandemic, many Bengal workers could not travel back and are stuck at different places."

"...Since it not possible for us to reach any help to them, I take the opportunity to request you to kindly ask your administration to provide them with basic shelter, food and medical support during this period of crisis. We, in Bengal, are taking care of such stuck people in our State."

The similar concern for the workers was earlier voiced by opposition leaders of West Bengal during an all-party meeting, which was presided by Chief Minister Banerjee, over COVID-19.

India on Thursday entered into the second day of nationwide-lockdown which will remain effective till Apr 14 midnight.
