CPM draws red line for TVK, opposes any AIADMK role in Tamil Nadu government

In a sharp statement, the Left party said the people of Tamil Nadu had voted against both the DMK and the AIADMK, and bringing the AIADMK into the government would go against the mandate delivered by voters in the Assembly election.

The CPI(M) also argued that the inclusion of the AIADMK would contradict TVK’s promise of “clean governance”, a key plank of Vijay’s election campaign.

'Tamil Nadu not ready for another election'

Despite its warning, the CPI(M) clarified that it continues to support the TVK government to ensure political stability in the state.

The party said Tamil Nadu was “not ready for another poll” and cautioned that any instability could create an opening for the BJP to gain influence through Governor’s rule.

“We support TVK as Tamil Nadu is not ready for another poll and we do not want the BJP to make a rear entry through Governor’s rule,” the party said.

The remarks come amid growing speculation over possible political realignments in Tamil Nadu following the dramatic rise of TVK under actor-turned-politician Vijay.

TVK emerged as a major force in the state after campaigning on an anti-corruption and anti-establishment platform, positioning itself as an alternative to the long-dominant DMK and AIADMK.

The party formed the government with the backing of allies including the CPI(M) and other Left parties.

Since then, discussions over expanding the coalition and managing political equations have triggered friction within the alliance.

The AIADMK, which suffered a major setback in the Assembly election, continues to remain divided into factions, fuelling speculation about future alignments in Tamil Nadu politics.
