New Delhi: In yet another jolt to Congress, CR Kesavan, the great-grandson of India's first Indian Governor-General C Rajagopalachari, joined BJP on Saturday, two months after resigning from the grand old party.

Yesterday, veteran Congress leader and former defence minister AK Anthony's son Anil Anthony, also an ex-Congress leader, joined the BJP. In the past few months, several Congress leaders, including some of the party's top names like Kapil Sibal and Ghulam Nabi Azad, have quit the party.

“I want to thank you for inducting me into the world's largest political party-BJP, especially on a day when our PM is in Tamil Nadu,” said CR Kesavan.

Speaking to the media, CR Kesavan said that Prime Minister Modi’s transformative leadership has inspired everyone in the country. He further said, “We believe in the leadership of PM Modi, and he will take us on the right path.”

Kesavan further said he is in a “happy space” now and his move is not only correct politically but also placed him on the side of the “right-thinking people and on the side of dharma”.

CR Kesavan, who served Congress for more than 20 years, resigned from the party on February 23. In a letter addressed to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Kesavan stated that he no longer agrees with the ideology and principles that the party currently represents.

Speaking about his exit from the grand old party, CR Kesavan said, "I have been a member of the Congress party for the last 22 years, but unfortunately over a period of time, I feel in INC, the attitude and approach were neither constructive nor concrete. The values which I worked for, had changed."
