New Delhi: Mayawati’s BSP on Saturday suspended MP Danish Ali for purportedly being involved in anti-party activities.

Ali represents the Amroha Lok Sabha constituency in Uttar Pradesh since 2019.

According to a statement released by Satish Chandra Misra, the national general secretary of the BSP (Bahujan Samaj Party), Ali had been warned by the party on numerous occasions in the past against engaging in activities that go against the interests of the party.

"In 2018, you were working with HD Deve Gowda of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. At that time, both the BSP and JD(S) were contesting together in the Karnataka assembly election. After the Karnataka election, you were given a ticket from Amroha and asked to contest from there due to Deve Gowda's insistence," the BSP said.

"Deve Gowda had even said that you would be contesting the Amroha Lok Sabha seat on the grounds that you will be working for the BSP. However, despite winning from Amroha, you have forgotten all the promises and assurances you made and indulged in anti-party activities. The party has decided to suspend you with immediate effect," the party added.

Sources indicate that Ali has been suspended from the BSP due to his allegiance to the Congress within Parliament.

The Congress, in turn, aired its support for Ali over the challenges he faced, prompting multiple warnings from the Mayawati-led party.

It is worth noting that the BSP leader, now suspended, on Wednesday congratulated Congress's Revanth Reddy ahead of Reddy's swearing-in ceremony as the Chief Minister of Telangana.

Following his suspension, Ali wrote on Twitter in a series of tweets.

In the posts, he asserted his dedication to strengthening the BSP and reiterated his commitment to opposing what he termed as the "anti-people policies" of the BJP-led central government.

He expressed gratitude to Mayawati, the party chief, for appointing him as the BSP Parliamentary party leader.

Ali asserted that if speaking out against injustice was considered a wrongdoing, he was prepared to face the consequences.
