Durgapur/IBNS/UNI: The decomposed body of a third-year computer science and design student was found in his college hostel of Durgapur Engineering College, three days after he went missing, official sources said on Friday.

The corpse was found on Thursday afternoon when the sweeper went to check the rooms following a foul smell emanating from the vicinity.

The 22-year-old student was found hanging in a hostel room which was not alloted to anyone, the sources said.

The victim, identified as Saurav Kumar, who hailed from Bihar's Bhagalpur, had been missing since Tuesday.

The college authorities informed the victim's father, who rushed here on Friday morning.

Rajdeep Ray, the dean of students' welfare of Dr BC Roy Engineering College (Durgapur), said the student had been missing since August 22.

The bereaved father has lodged an FIR with the local police station and claimed his son did not commit suicide as there was no such note.

The body was sent for post-mortem. Police said the matter is under investigation.

This comes days after the death of a first-year undergraduate student of Jadavpur University on the campus from alleged ragging in the hostel.

Police have arrested six students so far in connection with the death of the first-year student.
