Delhi: AAP claims MLAs, volunteers detained ahead of protest against BJP

New Delhi/UNI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday alleged that their MLAs, councillors, and several volunteers were detained by Delhi Police ahead of the party’s protest against BJP over the Chandigarh Mayor elections.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and the party chief, in a social media post on X, alleged, “All across Del, they (BJP) are detaining elected MLAs, councillors, and volunteers who were coming to the party office. What is this going on?”

“This is our elected MLA from Gandhinagar. Has there been an emergency in the country now?

"Can't even hold a peaceful protest?” AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj posted on X.

Meanwhile, AAP leader Atishi Marlena claimed that heavy barricades have been put up across Delhi and that buses full of AAP volunteers are being detained.

“Heavy barricades all across Delhi, buses full of AAP volunteers being detained, hundreds of para-military forces outside the AAP party office—why is the BJP so scared of a protest on the Chandigarh mayor elections?" Marlena said in her post on X.

The party is scheduled to stage a protest outside Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) headquarters in Delhi on February 2 over rigging in the Chandigarh Mayoral election, party sources said on Thursday here.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will lead the party’s protest against the BJP, the sources said.

The protest coincides with the day the Enforcement Directorate summoned Kejriwal in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

On Wednesday, the central probe agency issued the fifth summons to CM Arvind Kejriwal and asked him to join the investigation on February 2.

The AAP chief has previously skipped four summonses, calling them “illegal and politically motivated.”
