Kolkata, Nov 17 (IBNS): Acting on a tip off, police recovered banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes from two persons in Kolkata's Ashwini Nagar area under Baguiati Police Station on Thursday afternoon, officials said.

According to reports, policemen had stopped a suspicious looking car and seized the banned 500 and 1000 rupees notes worth 12 lakh 25 thousands from the vehicle.

Two passengers of the car were detained and later arrested as they could not produce valid documents against the money.

"We seized a vehicle and arrested two suspects. Banned Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes worth 12.25 lakh rupees were recovered from the vehicle," a senior police official told IBNS.

"During primary interrogation, the arrested confessed that they were going to an agent to exchange the money," the official added.

Police have started a probe into the case and begun a search operation to catch the agent.

The arrested duo, who have been charged under IPC sections 411, 413 and 414, will be produced at a local court on Friday, according to police officials.
