Chennai/IBNS: DMK chief MK Stalin took oath as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Friday after his party trumped the AIADMK in the assembly elections held last month.

Stalin,69, became the oldest first-time Chief Minister of the state.

Along with Stalin, 33 members of his cabinet were also sworn in by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.

Stalin's wife Durga, son Udhayanidhi, who registered his maiden electoral win from Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni seat, DMK's political aide Prashant Kishor were present in the audience.

The DMK chief will keep the Home Ministry among the other portfolios with him.

In a battle against the AIADMK-BJP alliance, the DMK won 159 of 234 seats, restoring the southern state's tradition of altering governments between the two major political parties.

The AIADMK-BJP alliance won only 75 seats.
