Chennai/IBNS: DMK MLA J Anbazhagan, who had contracted the pandemic Novel Coronavirus, died on his birthday on Wednesday.

He would have turned 62 on Wednesday.

Anbazhagan, who was admitted to a hospital with "severe acute respiratory distress" on Jun 2, had tested Covid-19 at that time.

A day later, he was put on ventilator support.

Congress MP from Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram tweeted, "DMK MLA #JAnbazhagan is no more. He succumbs to #COVID19. He is the first legislator to die in India of the infection. It was his 62nd birthday today. Om Shanti."
