Don't want to contest in Bengal polls from any seat: BJP's Howrah Dakshin candidate Rantidev Sengupta

Kolkata/IBNS: Nearly an hour after the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) released its candidates' list from its national headquarter in Delhi for the third and fourth phases of forthcoming West Bengal polls, BJP candidate from Howrah Dakshin assembly seat, Rantidev Sengupta, on Sunday evening expressed his unwillingness to contest in the polls.

The renowned journalist-turned-BJP leader, who had contested from Howrah Lok Sabha constituency in 2019 LS polls, said that he will not contest as a BJP candidate from any constituency in the state.

"It is completely my personal decision. I don't want to contest from any assembly seat in the upcoming polls and I will continue to take part in poll campaigns across the state," Rantidev Sengupta said.

"Neither I had requested BJP to make me a candidate nor the party had informed me about it before announcing my name as a candidate," Sengupta added. "I hope my party will reselect another good as well as ideal candidate for Howrah Dakshin assembly seat."

The leader said that he will inform his party about the matter.
