Elgar Parishad case: Accused Stan Swamy passes away

Mumbai/IBNS: Jesuit priest and activist Stan Swamy, who was an accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoists link case, passed away on Monday.

He was 84.

Swamy's lawyers had moved the Bombay High Court on Monday morning seeking an urgent hearing.

His health deteriorated on Sunday and he was put on a ventilator.

Swamy has been admitted to hospital since May. He was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The activist was arrested in October last year. He was lodged in Taloja central jail till May when he was shifted to hospital.

He was arrested under Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
