Dubai, Aug 3 (IBNS) Even as the passengers escaped, a firefighter died as the Emirates flight from India's Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai crash-landed in Dubai airport on Wednesday, with images showing thick plumes of smoke and fire from the aircraft emanating soon after it touched down.

The passengers managed to escape from the flight.

Following the incident, the airport remained shut for four hours.

The Dubai airport resumed operations at 6:30 pm, Dubai State Media tweeted.

The plane touched down and soon the smoke and fire was visible. The flight had 275  people on board.

"275 passengers and crew were on board of Emirates flight EK521 from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai which was involved in the incident. Emergency response teams have been activated and all passengers and crew have been safely evacuated.," tweeted Dubai state media.

All passengers were evacuated safely and no injuries have been reported so far, it said.

"Emirates can confirm that an incident happened at Dubai International Airport on 3rd August 2016 at about 12.45pm local time," it tweeted.

Speaking about the death, Emirates spokesperson Ahmed Bin Saeed said at a press conference: "We pay tribute to the firefighter who lost his life fighting the blaze. We thank all teams that dealt with the incident."

He said the evacuation procedures were executed professionally.

Cabin crew were the last to leave the plane.

Saeed said the flight pilot is a well experienced Emirati national with more than 7000  flight hour.

Speaking about the causalities, he said: "Medical teams dealt with 13 persons with minor injuries, who left after a short time."
