Srinagar, Jun 29 (IBNS): An encounter between security forces and terrorists took place on Friday in Jammu and Kashmir's Pulwama district, media reports said.

The encounter in a residential colony area of Chatapora  started after terrorists fired at forces during a cordon and search operation.

The Hindu reported that three militants are reportedly trapped in a house. The encounter is still on.

The security forces surrounded Thamuna village following specific inputs about the presence of the militants. "We suspect that three militants, including a top commander, may be trapped," an official has been quoted as saying.

The Hindu also reported that clashes erupted in parts of Pulwama, including adjacent areas of the encounter site, with locals hurling rocks at the security forces. An official said tear smoke shells and pellet shotguns were used to disperse mobs.

More details are still awaited.
