EU condemns Turkey attack

Brussels, Jan 1 (IBNS): The European Union on Sunday condemned the militant attack at a night club in Turkey which killed at least 39 people.

"It is with great sorrow that I have learnt about the terror attack in Istanbul in the early hours of this morning," EU President Jean-Claude Juncker said in a statement.

"In my personal name and that of the whole European Commission, I would like to express my heartfelt condolences to you and my solidarity with the victims and their loved ones," he said.

"It is our common responsibility to repel terrorism. Let me assure you and through you the people of Turkey that you can count on our continued support in this endeavour," the EU leader said.

At least 39 people were killed, including 16 foreign nationals, and 40 others were injured during an attack at a nightclub in Turkish capital Istanbul on Sunday, media reports said.
