Farmers suspend march to parliament on Budget day

New Delhi/IBNS: The farmers protesting the three controversial farm laws have cancelled their march to parliament on Monday, when the government will table the annual budget, after their massive tractor rally descended into violence on Tuesday.

The rally called by an umbrella of 40 farmers' unions to coincide with Tuesday's Republic Day celebrations ran into chaos as the farmers entered the national capital at 8 am instead of 11: 30 pm, breaking barricades and clashing with policemen. They did not stick to the designated route, stormed into the heart of the national capital Delhi and captured the Red Fort as police seemed going outnumbered.

Delhi police arrest 19, lodge 25 FIRs over violent clashes at farmers' tractor rally

Around 400 police personnel and more than 300 agitators and other people were injured in the daylong clashes.

Nineteen people have been arrested and more than 25 cases were registered on Wednesday in connection with the violence.

The farmers have, however, alleged that "miscreants" and "agents" of the government hijacked their rally aimed at repealing the three contentious farm laws passed by the Centre in September.
