Film fraternity supports SRK, calls him 'national icon'

New Delhi/Mumbai, Nov 4 (IBNS): The film fraternity came out in full support of superstar Shah Rukh Khan on Wednesday after some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders launched virulent attacks on him.
The King of Bollywood has been recently called 'Pakistani Agent', and also compared to 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Sayeed by BJP leaders.

BJP General Secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya had posted that the actor's 'heart lies in Pakistan'.

"Shah Rukh Khan lives in India, but his heart is in Pakistan. His films make crores here but he finds India intolerant," was what the former Madhya Pradesh minister and BJP general secretary tweeted on Tuesday.

His attack came after Shah Rukh Khan had joined the debate over intolerance on Monday, his 50th birthday, when he told NDTV that  there was "nothing worse than religious intolerance and that it would take India to the Dark Ages".

Opening up himself, Shah Rukh Khan had also said :"Our religion cannot be defined or showed respect to by our meat-eating habits. How banal and silly is that."

Reacting sharply to his comments, Vijayvargiya tweeted : "Isn't this treason? India is about to become a member of the United Nations Security Council. All forces opposing India including Pakistan are conspiring against it."

"Creating an atmosphere of intolerance in India is part of the conspiracy. Shah Rukh's tune is to sing with Pakistan and these forces against India," he wrote.

"When hundreds were killed in Bombay in 1993, then where was Shah Rukh Khan? When Mumbai 26/11 attack was where Shah Rukh?" he said.

However, facing severe criticisms from all corners, Vijayvargiya has removed his tweets and wrote his aim was not to hurt anyone and that Shah Rukh would not have been the most sought after actor after Amitabh Bachchan if India was intolerant.

But hours after he removed those tweets targeting Shah Rukh Khan, another party leader Yogi Adityanath  attacked the Bollywood superstar and compared him with 26/11 terror mastermind Hafiz Saeed of Pakistan.

"I don't think there is any different between the words of Shah Rukh Khan and Hafiz Saeed," BJP MP Adityanath told reporters.

Earlier, Vishwa Hindu Parishad leader Sadhvi Prachi had triggered a controversy as she hit out at Khan for his remarks on 'intolerance' and called him a 'Pakistani agent'.

She was quoted as saying to media that Khan has committed 'treason' by talking about returning awards and should be 'punished' for his comments.

Reacting sharply to these comments, veteran actor Anupam Kher tweeted: "Some members of the BJP really need to control their tongue & stop talking rubbish about @iamsrk. He is a national icon & We r PROUD of him."

Musician Vishal Dadlani also supported SRK and posted: "He loves India more than most! It's time for those that SRK has inspired, supported & worked with, to stand by him! #IStandWithSRK."

Earlier veteran filmmaker Aparna Sen tweeted: "Can't believe Sadhvi's reaction to SRK on tv! They're ones who want to break the country apart! There should be legal action against her!"
