Amethi, May 6 (IBNS): FIRs have been lodged against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Somnath Bharti and nearly 40 other party activists ahead of the polls in the high profile Amethi constituency of Uttar Pradesh.
Party leader Pankaj Shukla and scores of others were also slapped with charges, said media reports.

Earlier, candidate from Amethi Lok Sabha constituency  Kumar Vishwas, reportedly clashed with the local police on Monday night.

However, he defended his act and alleged that he was harassed by the police.

"The 'Midnight Raid'.. Administration asked my family to leave Amethi with immediate effect at midnight!" tweeted Vishwas on Tuesday.

He said the police threatened to arrest him if he did not leave Amethi.

Meanwhile, the police said they were following the orders of the Election Commission (EC) that does not allow outside campaigners stay back in Amethi as campaigning for the May 7 polls ended on Monday evening.

Vishwas is pitted against Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Smriti Irani in Amethi.
