Fire in Kolkata Metro, passengers evacuated

Kolkata, Dec 27 (IBNS): All passengers have been evacuated after a fire was caught in a coach of Kolkata metro on Thursday evening.

The fire was caught in a coach of a train while it was travelling between stations Rabindra Sadan and Maidan at around 5 pm.

Kolkata Metro informed the fire was doused with the efforts of metro staff.

Kolkata Metro tweeted, "An incident of fire between Rabindra Sadan and Maidan around 5pm. The fire put off by our staff through water from fire hydrants. West Bengal fire service & Kolkata Police disaster management group are attending. All passengers have been safely evacuated by 6pm. Pl do not panic."

A truncated service of metro is presently available from stations Central to Noapara and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Subhash (both up and down).

"Truncated services are now running between Central to Noapara both UP and DN and Mahanayak Uttam Kumar to Kavi Subhash both UP and DN... Additional services between Dumdum and Noapara.... ," Kolkata Metro said in a follow up tweet.
