New Delhi/IBNS: UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her two children-Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra- might soon lose their Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover, media reports said.

The Special Protection Group (SPG) security cover given to the Gandhi family – UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and her children, Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra – may be withdrawn soon, government sources have told CNN-News18.

The decision, they said, was taken after multiple security agencies carried out a threat perception assessment and found there was no direct threat to them, reported the news channel.

“Recently decision was taken after assessing threat inputs from all agencies” senior officials aware of the developments told the news channel.

In case the SPG security cover is removed, then Gandhis will now get Z-plus security.

The SPG cover is considered as the highest tier of security in the country.

Sources close to the Gandhis told NDTV that they have not been informed.

If removed, then the SPG, an elite force of 3,000, will now only protect Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
