Give justice to Bilkis Bano: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi

| @indiablooms | Aug 25, 2022, at 09:25 pm

New Delhi/UNI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi Thursday said justice should be done in the Bilkis Bano case, and accused the government of giving hollow slogans of 'Beti Bachao'.

"They give hollow slogans like Beti Bachao, and save rapists. It's a question of the rights and dignity of women. Bilkis Bano should be given justice," Rahul said.

Eleven men who were sentenced to life imprisonment in the Bilkis Bano gangrape case of 2002 were released from Godhra sub-jail on Aug 15 after a panel set up by the Gujarat government approved their application for remission of the sentence.

The Supreme Court Thursday issued a notice to the Gujarat government seeking its response on the release of 11 convicts in the case related to the gangrape of Bilkis Bano during a communal clash in the state back in 2002.

Bilkis Bano, who was five-month pregnant in 2002, was gangraped while fleeing the violence which broke out during the Godhra train carnage.
