Goa: Contract for water & waste water management signed with Portugal

Panaji/UNI: The Public Works Department (PWD), Government of Goa and Aguas de Portugal Internacional, Ministry for Environment of the Portuguese Republic, on Saturday signed a contract for ‘Technical Co-operation Partnership for Water and Waste Water Management'.

Principal Chief Engineer of PWD U P Parsekar and Alexandra Serra from Aguas De Portugal signed the contract in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and President of the Portuguese Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Souza.

The contract is a part of MoU which was signed in September 2018 in the state for ‘Technical co-operation partnership between Government of Goa and the Ministry for Environment of the Portuguese Republic for Water supply and Waste Water Management.’

The contract will be in operation initially for two years. The key areas for implementation are assessment of existing Salaulim and Opa Water Supply Project, Software tools for decentralized sewerage treatment plant on a pilot basis, Study on the removal of Manganese in Salaulim water supply systems and Capacity building.

On the occasion, another MoU for Co-operation between V M Salgaoncar Institute of International Hospitality and Education and Turismo De Portugal and MoU between Estaleiros Navais De Peniche (ENP) Portugal and Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL) for Shipbuilding Collaborations were signed.

Yet another MoU for Academic exchange in the field of Law and Language and culture between G R K College and University of Combra was signed. Also, five MoUs and five letters of intent between the Portuguese Institute for Systems and Computer Engineering, Technology and Science were signed between the University of Porto and IIT, Goa.

The strategic tripartite agreement for research and exchange between three institutions: INSEC TEC, Faculty of Engineering, University of Porto and IIT Madras focusing on Marine Exploration and Energy Technologies, MoU for Co-operation between INSEC-TEC and IIT Madras was also signed on the occasion.
