‘Govt has nothing to hide’: Amit Shah says ‘ready for debate’ on NEET crackdown; Rahul Gandhi hits back, ‘not interested in lecture’

“I am ready to respond to every question raised by the Opposition in Parliament. But the Opposition does not want the debate to take place. Now let the people decide who is running away from the debate,” Shah said.

“I will remain here in the House, listen to everyone and respond to all questions. The government has nothing to hide,” he added.

The BJP also shared a video of Shah's remarks on X.

Rahul Gandhi demands answers

Responding to Shah, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said he was not interested in a “lecture” from the Home Minister, but wanted answers regarding the alleged police action against students during the Parliament march.

Gandhi questioned who ordered the alleged use of force against the protesters and sought accountability for the injuries allegedly suffered by students.

“We are not interested in him giving us a lecture or a discussion. We are interested in one simple thing — who shot those students? Who gave the order to shoot those students?” Gandhi said.

He further alleged that one student was blinded and another was injured in the ear, while questioning who ordered the alleged use of lathis with nails against the protesters.

NEET protests and Parliament march

The exchange comes amid a political confrontation over the government's handling of the NEET protests.

Opposition parties have been raising questions in Parliament over the alleged police action against protesting students during a march near Parliament, demanding accountability over the use of force.

The government, meanwhile, has maintained that it is ready to address the Opposition's concerns through a parliamentary debate.
