Govt sanctions construction of 1.07 lakh houses in 5 states under PAMY (U)

New Delhi/IBNS: The Centre has approved the construction of 1.07 lakh houses in five states under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), according  to a statement issued on Friday.

The five states include Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry.

The approval was given on Thursday by the Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee headed by Union housing and urban affairs secretary Durga Shanker Mishra.

The statement said that the secretary also reviewed the progress of implementation of PMAY (U) in states where funds have been sanctioned for house construction.

According to the ministry, the total number of houses sanctioned under the scheme is now 1.14 crore.

Out of these, 91 lakh have been grounded for construction and over 53 lakh have been completed and delivered to the beneficiaries.

Total investment under the mission is Rs 7.52 lakh crore with Central assistance of Rs 1.85 lakh crore.

Till now, Central assistance of Rs 1.14 lakh crore has already been released, the ministry added.

Mishra reviewed the progress of the Lighthouse project in Indore, Chennai, Rajkot, Ranchi, Agartala and Lucknow and directed officials to finish the construction work within the set time period, the statement added.
