Gulbarg Society massacre: Life imprisonment for the murder convicted

Ahmedabad, Jun 17 (IBNS): The 11 people convicted for murder in the Gulbarg Society massacre case have been sentenced to life an jail by the Ahmedabad court on Friday, according to media reports.
Twelve others, who were convicted of lesser offences, have been given seven years in jail. One of the convicted was given 10 years in jail.
 
The judge called the massacre the darkest day in the history of civil society, media reported.
 
A special SIT court on Jun 2 gave its verdict in the 2002 post-Godhra riots case of Gulbarg Society when 24 people were found guilty, 11 of murder. 
 
But the announcement of the quantum of punishment was postponed several times.
 
The court acquitted 36 people.
 
The Gulbarg Housing Society massacre left  69 persons, including ex-Congress MP Ehsan Jafri, dead.
 
Ehsan Jafri's wife Zakia has expressed her dissatisfaction over the quantum of punishment, reported NDTV.
