Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump were seen interacting on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France, on Tuesday, marking their first face-to-face meeting in months.

The brief exchange between the two leaders comes ahead of a scheduled bilateral meeting on Wednesday, when they are expected to discuss key issues of mutual interest.

Handshake and brief conversation

Videos and photographs from the summit showed Modi and Trump greeting each other with a handshake before engaging in a short conversation.

The interaction drew attention as the two leaders are set to hold formal talks on the sidelines of the summit, amid evolving geopolitical and economic challenges.

First in-person meeting since February

Before Tuesday's interaction, Modi and Trump had last met in person in February 2025 at the White House in Washington, DC, shortly after Trump's second inauguration as US President.

The upcoming bilateral meeting will provide an opportunity for both leaders to review the progress in India-US ties and discuss regional and global developments.

Modi in France for G7 summit

Prime Minister Modi arrived in France to participate in the G7 Summit, where he is expected to engage with world leaders and exchange views on a range of pressing global issues.

The summit brings together leaders from major economies and partner nations to discuss topics including economic cooperation, security, energy, technology and international stability.

Modi also met the G7 leaders, including Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, ahead of the Summit.

Bilateral talks scheduled on Wednesday

The Modi-Trump meeting on Wednesday is expected to be closely watched given the significance of the India-US partnership.

The leaders are likely to discuss issues related to trade, strategic cooperation, defence ties and developments in key global hotspots, among other matters.
