Harbhajan Singh stands beside Gautam Gambhir over pamphlets controversy in Delhi

New Delhi, May 10 (IBNS): Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh has stood beside his former national teammate and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s candidate from East Delhi Gautam Gambhir, who has been accused of distributing pamphlets containing derogatory remarks against his opponent from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Atishi Marlena.

"I am shocked to note yesterday’s events involving @GautamGambhir. I know him well and he can never talk ill for any woman. Whether he wins or loses is another matter but the man is above all this," Harbhajan tweeted.

Atishi had held a press conference on Thursday alleging that Gambhir distributed a pamphlet containing "obscene and derogatory" remarks against her in the constituency.

The AAP candidate broke down while reading a pamphlet containing demeaning remarks against her, which she alleged was distributed in the constituency by her rival Gambhir.
Gambhir denied the allegation in strong terms and termed it as a conspiracy by AAP against him. He also challenged Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to prove the allegations leveled against him and said would quit politics if the charge is proven.

The BJP candidate on Friday sent defamation notices to Kejriwal, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Atishi for allegedly accusing him of distributing the derogatory pamphlets.

In the notice, Gambhir demanded an unconditional apology from the AAP leaders and asked them to withdraw their allegations against him.
