‘Honeymoon Express’ sparks row as Indian Railways acts against unauthorised coach decoration

Railway authorities have since initiated action, alleging multiple violations of railway rules and security protocols.

The incident involved Train No. 11002 Nandigram Express, where a private decorator transformed a reserved cabin into a romantic setting featuring balloons, flowers, thousands of rose petals and an "I Love You" message displayed on the compartment walls.

The unusual makeover quickly drew widespread attention online, with many social media users expressing surprise at seeing such an elaborate private arrangement inside a moving railway coach.

According to the organisers, the decoration was arranged by Maharashtra-based Rahat Room Decoration for a couple from Jalna seeking a memorable honeymoon journey.

The decoration team said it boarded the train before the couple arrived and completed the entire setup in advance.

 

The couple reportedly travelled by road from Aurangabad to Jalna railway station before boarding the decorated coach.

While the surprise attracted admiration on social media, it also prompted scrutiny from railway authorities.

Indian Railways stated that the decorator entered the coach without obtaining official permission, describing the incident as a serious breach of security.

Authorities confirmed that a case had been registered against the decorator under the Railways Act. 

 

The allegations include unauthorised entry into a railway coach, travelling without a valid ticket and trespassing on railway property.

The railways also initiated disciplinary action against officials linked to the incident. 

 

Chief Ticket Inspector Girish Kumar, who was on duty when the decoration took place, was suspended with immediate effect.

A departmental inquiry has also been ordered to determine how the unauthorised decoration was permitted and to establish accountability.

The video generated divided opinions across social media platforms.

Many users described the gesture as creative and memorable, praising the effort to create a unique travel experience for the couple.

Others, however, questioned whether private decorations should be permitted inside railway coaches. 

 

Several users raised concerns over passenger safety, cleanliness and the potential risks associated with unauthorised alterations inside train compartments.

Some also noted that railway coaches are governed by strict operational and safety regulations intended to ensure the security and comfort of all passengers.
