How PM Modi learnt the difference between 'gale lagna' and gale padna' in Parliament

"I came here for the first time and learnt many things. For the first time, I realised the difference between 'gale lagna' and 'gale padna' (an embrace and someone throwing themselves at you)," Modi said in a reference to the instance when Rahul Gandhi had suddenly walked across to him and given him a hug.

Modi was visibly taken aback at this gesture. But Rahul, on returning to his seat, grinned and winked at Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindhia.

Referring to that, Modi today said: "I saw for the first time that there is aankhon ki gustakhiyan (mischief of the eyes) in the House." The BJP members burst into laughter.

"We had heard about an earthquake. But there was no earthquake in the past five years," Modi said in another jab at the Congress president.

Rahul Gandhi had said "an earthquake will erupt" if Modi spoke about demonetization in Parliament.

The PM today said: "Planes were flown in the House but so great is our democracy that no plane could touch that level."

Earlier in the day, which is celebrated as Hug Day, the Congress on Twitter posted a video of the hug with the caption: "Today our message to the BJP is simple: Hug, don't hate."
