IAF aids Maldives in its national crisis
New Delhi, Dec 7 (IBNS) In a swift response to the 'National Crisis' faced by Maldives, following the shutting down the desalination plants in a fire incident in capital in Male, the Indian Air Force has pressed fixed wing aircraft into service to meet the immediate requirement of the people in Male.
Five aircraft including two C-17 Globemaster-III and three IL-76 with 153 tones on Sept 5 and three aircraft including two C-17 and one IL-76 with 130 tones on Sept 6 were pressed into service, the IAF said in a statement.
One C-17 aircraft with 40 tones leaves for male in the morning and another aircraft with 40 tones approx is scheduled in the evening.
Maldives, an island nation in the Indian Ocean, has no natural water source and consumes only treated sea water.
