'I'm ashamed': Girl who abused PM Modi during NEET protests issues apology
New Delhi/IBNS: The girl who abused Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the NEET paper-leak protests at Delhi's Jantar Mantar has issued a public apology to the Prime Minister and the country.
Teen apologises in video message
In a video message, the teenager, dressed in a striped T-shirt, folded her hands and sought forgiveness, saying she was "ashamed" of her actions and had acted under the influence of other protesters.
"I came under the influence of my friends and abused our Prime Minister... I am only 15 years old and my act does not deserve to be pardoned," she said.
Calling it her "first and last mistake", she added, "I am so ashamed of myself that I can't look into my own eyes."
The girl who claims to be a teenager also apologised to the country and concluded her message by saying, "Please forgive me."
PM Modi appeals for restraint
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a late-night video message, urged people to respond with restraint and compassion instead of anger over the incident.
The Prime Minister appealed for forgiveness towards the teenager, who has faced widespread criticism on social media for using abusive language against him during the NEET paper-leak protests.
Modi stressed that abuse and hatred do not resolve differences and urged society to guide young people rather than punish them.

Police case over protest slogans
The Prime Minister's remarks came days after the woman, who was earlier reported to be 25, was booked over allegedly objectionable remarks made during a Cockroach Janta Party-led protest against alleged paper leaks at Jantar Mantar on July 23.
A Zero FIR was initially registered at the Expressway Police Station in Noida under Sections 352, 353(1) and 356(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, relating to provoking a breach of peace, statements conducing to public mischief and defamation.
The case has since been transferred to the Parliament Street Police Station in Delhi for further investigation.
