New Delhi/IBNS: In a bizarre claim, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) youth wing leader and spokesperson has said India's independence is not complete as it was given by the British on a 99-year lease.

Ruchi Pathak, who participated in a panel discussion on The Lallantop's Uttar Pradesh election show in Jhansi, said, "India got its independence on a 99-year lease. India is not completely free."

"The British Crown gave India independence on a 99-year lease. India is not completely free," she added, blaming the Congress for the situation.

Pathak's remark has drawn widespread jokes on social media with #99YearsLease trending on Twitter.
