Indian Army fires at drones in Jammu and Poonch sectors; third sighting in five days

The Indian Army engaged drones spotted over the Jammu and Poonch sectors on Wednesday evening, NDTV reported, quoting defence sources.

This marks the third drone sighting in Jammu and Kashmir in five days.

The first drone was observed in the Jammu sector, prompting immediate counter-unmanned aerial system (UAS) action by the army.

The second drone was detected over Degwar in the Poonch sector, according to sources.

Pakistani forces across the Line of Control (LoC) are known to deploy heavy-duty drones to transport supplies to terrorists on the Indian side.

Militants have also used drones to carry weapons across the LoC and the International Border.

In recent years, several drones carrying drugs have been intercepted along the border in Punjab.

The latest sightings follow a period of relative calm after India’s Operation Sindoor in May 2025.
