Srinagar/UNI: An Army officer was killed in a massive fire in world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, official sources said here on Sunday.

They said fire broke out in a Signal Station of Army in main Gulmarg. ''Fire tenders were rushed to douse off the leaping flames, clearly visible from a distance'', they said.

They said Major Ankit Budhraja of Corps Signals, attached with SSTC Gulmarg, rescued his wife and one of his dogs.

However, they said while rescuing another dog the officer was critically injured. ''The injured was immediately taken to a hospital where he succumbed'', they said.

They said the station was also gutted in the fire. “The cause of the fire was not immediately known,” they said, adding a case has been registered and an investigation has been initiated.
