Indian Railways announces over 13,000 loco pilot jobs after West Bengal train mishap

| @indiablooms | Jun 19, 2024, at 09:44 pm

New Delhi: The Indian Railways has announced over 13,000 new openings for assistant loco pilots (train drivers) to reduce the workload on current employees, media reported.

This decision comes a day after a goods train collided with the Kanchenjunga Express, in which ten people were killed.

The Railway Board has authorized 18,799 vacancies for assistant loco pilots, notably higher than the 5,696 vacancies announced in January 2024, reported the Economic Times.

This increase highlights government's measure to address the concerns raised by train drivers about fatigue and insufficient staffing, linked to judgment errors and signal overruns, contributing to accidents on the national railway network.
