Indian Twitter users target wrong Tom Holland over PM Modi tweet, #BoycottSpiderMan trends

New Delhi/IBNS: Indian Twitter users targeted the wrong Tom Holland for a tweet on Narendra Modi after the revamped Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad was renamed after Prime Minister.

This time the Twitter users have confused SpiderMan actor Tom Holland with the British author and cricketer of the same name.

In a tweet, Holland wrote: "“I’m a huge admirer of the modesty Modi showed in naming the world’s largest cricket stadium after himself.”

"Not always a good sign for countries when leaders start pulling that trick..." he added.

His sarcasm didn’t go well among the Indian Twitter users.

Holland’s tweet invited over 5,000 retweets and thousands of replies, most of them asking him to “mind his business.”

They warned him that Indians will boycott his upcoming Spiderman 3 for his comments, obviously confusing the author with actor Tom Holland who plays Spiderman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

His Twitter profile which reads: "New history of Christianity - 'Dominion' - out now! Dinosaur lover. Stonehenge Tunnel hater. A 'leading English cricketer' - The Times. Podcast: @theresthistory" was ignored by the netizens.

Promptly, #BoycottSpiderMan began trending on the micro-blogging website on Friday.

This coincided on a day when actor Holland was busy promoting his latest movie by teasing his fans with fake titles of his third SpiderMan movie.

It was finally revealed that the third movie from the franchise also starring Zendaya and Jacob Batalon , would be called Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Later in a tweet, writer Tom Holland wrote: "Oh dear - I seem single-handedly to have destroyed prospects for the next Spider-Man in India."

"I had not realised that #BoycottSpiderman actually trended in India on the day that @TomHolland1996  was promoting his new film! My apologies to him as well. (Though it is quite funny...)" he posted.
