New Delhi/UNI: India's second consignment of earthquake relief assistance for the people of Afghanistan reached Kabul Friday.

This follows after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake on Wednesday jolted Afghanistan's Paktika and Khost provinces killing over 1,000 people and injuring over 1,600 others.

External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi tweeted, "Second consignment of India's earthquake relief assistance for the people of Afghanistan reaches Kabul."

The MEA in a statement said, "In the wake of the tragic earthquake that struck Afghanistan on June 22, 2022 causing massive destruction and loss of precious lives, the Government of India, as a true first responder, has dispatched 27 tons of emergency relief assistance in two flights for the people of Afghanistan."

The ministry said that the quake relief assistance consists of essential items including family ridge tents, sleeping bags, blankets, sleeping mats, etc which will be handed over to the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) and Afghan Red Crescent Society (ARCS) in Kabul.

The ministry said India stands in solidarity with the people of Afghanistan and remains firmly committed to provide immediate relief assistance for its people.

On Thursday, India delivered its first consignment of earthquake relief assistance for the people of Afghanistan.
