New Delhi/IBNS: Dharmendra Pratap Singh, who is known to be India's tallest man, joined the Samajwadi Party ahead of the Uttar Pradesh polls on Saturday.

Singh, who hails from Uttar Pradesh's Pratapgarh, is 2.4m or 8 ft 1 inch tall. He is just 11 cm short of the world record.

Following the joining, Samajwadi's State President Naresh Uttam Patel said the same would strengthen the party ahead of the upcoming polls.

"Expressing faith in the policies of the Samajwadi Party and the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav, today Dharmendra Pratap Singh of Pratapgarh joined the Samajwadi Party," Samajwadi spokesperson Rajendra Chaudhary said in a statement on Saturday.

Singh has said that while he faced a lot of troubles due to his height, he also enjoys a lot of attention when he steps out.
