New Delhi/UNI: Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, was on Monday allowed to travel abroad by the Supreme Court post furnishing an itinerary and security deposit of Rs 2 crores.

Karti is being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI in the case related to alleged financial irregularities in granting Foreign Investment Promotion Board clearance to INX Media for foreign investment to the tune of Rs 305 crore from abroad when his father was the finance minister, along with some other cases.

A bench, headed by Justice Ashok Bhushan, asked him to file an undertaking about his flight schedule, place of stay and return date. Karti has also been asked to return his passport to the probe agency when he comes back.

Additional Solicitor General S V Raju had opposed the application and said that earlier Karti was allowed to travel abroad, but with a deposit of Rs 10 crore.

To which Senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who was appearing for Karti, said the condition was not justified for a Member of Parliament (MP) and he would not run away anywhere.

The apex court said the amount be deposited in a nationalised bank and allowed Karti to travel for six months. Earlier, it had allowed him to travel to the UK, the US, France, Germany and Spain.
