New Delhi: Air India has decided to halt its flights to and from Tel Aviv following the assault by Hamas on Israel over the weekend, media reported.

In reaction to the unprecedented aggression by the militant organization, Israel announced a "state of war".

According to an India Today report, an Air India spokesperson said, "AI139 from Delhi to Tel Aviv on 07 October 2023 and the return flight AI140 from Tel Aviv to Delhi have been cancelled in the interests and safety of our guests and crew. Passengers are being extended all support, as per their requirements."

The militant group unleashed a barrage of rockets from Gaza and dispatched fighters across the border.

In the ensuing clashes between Palestinian fighters and security forces in southern Israel, more than 100 Israelis lost their lives and 740 sustained injuries in the early morning onslaught.

As the situation in Israel worsened, the Indian Embassy in Israel issued an advisory for Indian citizens on Saturday, in light of the declared "state of war" in Israel. Officials urged Indians in Israel to exercise vigilance and adhere to safety protocols.

Marked as the most the biggest attack on Israel in years, Hamas launched approximately 5,000 rockets from Gaza on Saturday morning.

In the wake of military offensives in south Israel and retaliation by Israeli Defence Forces, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared, “We are at war, and we will win" in a video statement on Saturday.

The Israeli army declared 'Operation Iron Swords' against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.

Gaza health authorities said that 198 Palestinians lost their lives and 1,610 sustained injuries in response to the Israeli Defence Force's retaliatory action in Gaza, reported media.
